Code of Conduct

Gemini Dancers – Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

At Gemini Dancers, we are committed to providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where children and young people can enjoy dance, develop their skills, and build confidence.
This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from everyone involved in our organisation, including staff, volunteers, students, and parents or carers.

By being part of Gemini Dancers, you agree to uphold these values and conduct yourself in a way that supports the safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment of all participants.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to:
– Ensure that everyone associated with Gemini Dancers understands their responsibilities.
– Promote respect, professionalism, and integrity in all interactions.
– Help create a positive learning environment where all dancers can thrive.
– Support compliance with Gemini Dancers’ Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.

3. Expectations for Staff and Volunteers

All Gemini Dancers staff and volunteers must:
– Treat all dancers, parents, and colleagues with respect, fairness, and kindness.
– Act as positive role models at all times.
– Maintain professional boundaries with all students.
– Refrain from using inappropriate language, gestures, or behaviour.
– Avoid any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
– Ensure that teaching, choreography and costumes are age-appropriate and inclusive.
– Respect personal privacy and never discuss confidential matters outside of Gemini Dancers.
– Follow all health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection procedures.
– Use only approved communication channels for contacting students or parents (e.g. official Gemini Dancers email or messaging systems).
– Report any safeguarding or wellbeing concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Andrea Ford (andrea.geminidancers@hotmail.com).

4. Expectations for Students

All Gemini Dancers students are expected to:
– Treat teachers, staff, and fellow dancers with respect and kindness.
– Be punctual and prepared for each class, rehearsal, or performance.
– Wear appropriate dance attire and maintain good personal hygiene.
– Follow the instructions of teachers and staff promptly and respectfully.
– Take care of the studio, equipment, and facilities.
– Refrain from using language or behaviour that could be seen as offensive, aggressive, or disrespectful.
– Support and encourage fellow dancers — bullying or exclusion will not be tolerated.
– Use social media responsibly and avoid posting content that could damage the reputation of Gemini Dancers or another person.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from classes.

5. Expectations for Parents and Carers

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting the Gemini Dancers community. We ask that they:
– Encourage their child’s participation in a positive and supportive manner.
– Treat all staff, volunteers, and other parents with respect.
– Refrain from disruptive, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour during classes or events.
– Direct any concerns or complaints through the proper channels — in a calm, respectful manner.
– Avoid coaching from the sidelines or interfering with teaching during sessions.
– Ensure children are dropped off and collected on time.
– Support Gemini Dancers’ safeguarding, photography, and communication policies.
– Contact Andrea Ford (DSL) if they have any safeguarding concerns.

6. Equal Opportunities and Inclusion

Gemini Dancers celebrates diversity and is committed to providing equal opportunities for all participants, regardless of age, gender, ability, race, religion, sexuality, or background.
Any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

7. Health, Safety, and Wellbeing

– All staff and students must follow health and safety guidance during classes, performances, and events.
– Injuries, illnesses, or hazards should be reported immediately to a staff member.
– Students must inform teachers of any medical conditions or injuries that may affect their participation.
– Gemini Dancers staff will take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe environment, both physically and emotionally.

Parents and guardians understand and accept that appropriate physical contact may occur between instructors and students when necessary for teaching purposes, such as demonstrating movements, correcting posture, or ensuring safety. All contact will be kept to a minimum and conducted in a professional, respectful, and child-appropriate manner in line with safeguarding best practices.

8. Breaches of the Code of Conduct

If a breach of this Code of Conduct occurs, Gemini Dancers will:
1. Address the issue promptly and fairly.
2. Discuss the concern with those involved to seek resolution.
3. Take disciplinary action if necessary, which may include a verbal warning, written warning, suspension, or removal from the organisation.
4. In serious cases, report the matter to external authorities (e.g., police or social care) where appropriate.

9. Agreement

All staff, volunteers, students, and parents must agree to abide by this Code of Conduct as a condition of participation in any Gemini Dancers activities.
